The Glass Pyramid

Related Papers
Excerpt from The Child Within Us Lives! A Synthesis of Science, Religion and Metaphysics
By William Samuel

Years ago someone wrote that all the people on earth, if assembled in one place, standing side by side, would occupy a square mile of land. They would certainly cover more land that that today, but let us use that square mile for the sake of an illustration that will make a point. Imagine that all humanity is brought together into a great glass pyramid whose four corners cover a square mile of earth. The people are standing jammed together like young people at a rock concert inside the great crystal pyramid, all facing the center.

Well now, how would each person describe what he sees as he looks up? Each one would see the four quadrants of glass coming together at the top. Let us suppose they can see the stars beyond, including Polaris, the North Star, whose position remains constant, and are asked to give a description of the North Star's location. The people along the south wall of the pyramid see the star in one quadrant; those along the north wall see it in another. Those who stand in the east side of the pyramid make different measurements to plot Polaris than do those in the west. As a matter of fact, every man, woman and child would have a slightly different version of the North Star's location, relative to the great glass panels that come to a point above. Each person represents a unique point of view.

Next, suppose that certain creeds and dogmas about the star's location developed through the centuries. The East-side view of things would certainly differ from the West-side view—similar to the differing religious views in the world today. Further, most people are too busy with family and other affairs to look up and measure for themselves, so they have grown to accept whatever idea is popular in their own locales. Can't we see from this illustration how religious ideas, all pertaining to the same God but seen through the eyes of differing cultures, have developed during the centuries before worldwide communication linked us all together? Man's personal views of his relation to Godhead are not unlike the pyramid-people's views of their relation to the North Star. Religious ideas generally refer to the Same One, but have their own sets of proofs for validity. And, in truth, every statement is valid, so far as its measure goes. Isn't it strange that some of the world's religions can perceive this difference and allow for it, while others stand like staunch old pines in the wind, refusing to give any other views an inch, claiming their own perspective is the only valid perspective of the Ineffable?

Can the reader see that all eyes pointing toward the top represent individual “points of view” and “lines of thought”? If so, let me show in a simple way how powerful subjectivism is—and, remember, subjective thinking is the new wave of things to come for mankind.

One person, having learned the top-down method of thinking and comprehending—the very basis for subjectivism—is like a person who has broken away form the masses and climbed to the top of the pyramid. His view is like a great eye at the top of the pyramid looking down at everyone looking up. The top-down view includes all the bottom-up views within itself almost simultaneously. The top-down view is quantum, whereas the bottom-up view is individual. Such is the advantage of subjectivism and its comprehension that the world exists within Awareness! Subjectivism is to human thought what quantum mechanics has  become to physics. (Today we see the leading edge of science on the brink of discovering the “subjective idea.” They have found the experiment tied to the awareness observing the experiment. It is a start! Science will discover the power of subjectivism before religion does, it appears—and even before the metaphysicians who claim to know it already, but don't know what to do with it. We guess the scientist will know because his arithmetic will suggest, insist and cause him to “prove.”)

Does the Eye at the top quarrel with the opposing views at the bottom? No. It understands the basis for the differences of opinion—and understand the holistic reasons for mankind's behavior. Oh, but the top-down view would certainly object if one of the groups along the eastern or western wall went to war against its opposite numbers, in the name of creed, dogma and holy book.

We discover the child within. The Child takes us (more or less) quickly to the top of the pyramid to the View that includes all views within Itself. Down on the sandy floor of the pyramid, extremism in the defense (or promulgation) of anyone's holy book and/or bottom-up view of the Ineffable, causes men in black to make strange utterances in the name of localized views of God and to call for holy wars that could destroy civilization. On the floor, one hopes that won't happen. From the top, one sees that something must happen among the warring, unloving throngs to call attention to the Child's top-down View that understands and forgives. The prophets have all said to look up willingly—or be forced to look up in an awful Armageddon.

Two thousand years ago, Christianity came along to say, “Let that mind be in us which is also in Christ...” (the subjective view of things), but see how Christianity's dogmatic creeds are warring among themselves. Whatever happened to the Child's View that Jesus and other gave their lives to tell about?

We get the top-down view and live it on the sandy floor of life, right here in the objective view of things. How? We find the Child within ourselves and run with it. We publish peace (our own knowledge of this Child within) as we have been admonished to. We finally understand the exclusivity and arrogance of unyielding creeds and dogmas that discourage the individual's climb to the top of the pyramid. We see why the objective views have labeled subjectivism “silly solipsism.” And, subjectively, from the top, we see that “one with God is a majority.” The world unfolds within the subjective consciousness.

A Soldier's Prayer

The following poem was written by a Confederate soldier
This poem was found among William Samuel's private journals

 A Soldier's Prayer

I asked God for strength that I might achieve
I was made weak that I might learn humbly to obey
I asked for health that I might do great things
I was given infirmity that I might do better things
I asked for riches that I may be happy

I was given poverty that I might be wise
I asked for all things that I might enjoy life
I got nothing I asked for but everything I hoped for.
Despite myself, my prayers were answered

I am amongst all men most richly blessed

Quantum Man, The Guided Missile

"Ojai Blooms" by Sandy Jones

The Child Within Us Lives! A Synthesis of Science, Religion and Metaphysics
By William Samuel

Something enormous is soon to happen in the world; there is no sensitive person who doesn't feel this deeply. In every field—science, religion, philosophy, government, business, or whatever—a strange sense of disquiet is growing, a feeling of Something Imminent. As we look about us, we can see that the world is off course. Many who think they understand, point to drugs, overcrowding, pollution, the overload of information, corrupt government and any number of other possible causes. But what is happening now has a more significant and, as yet, undreamed of cause. The recognition of this deeper dimension comes with a solution for the world's problems! This book is about that.

If we think of mankind in quantum terms—as a single organism—we might picture civilization as a missile moving through time and space. This missile has been on its way for many thousands of years, headed for a special destination for mankind. Its internal guidance mechanism was turned on when the great religions and philosophies arrived to give humane guidance to men. For Western society, the missile's central system was activated at the time of Judaism's declaration of one God, and that declaration, along with similar statements from other cultures, has been the primary directive for society thus far.

When Christianity arose and broke from the popular Judaism of the day, the missile received input that altered the course, much as our satellites today are given in-flight corrections as they move to do their work in the universe. With each discovery or development in history, Eastern or Western, external and internal, have come new adjustments in civilization's direction. None of the developments in this long line of progression have been accidental or "bad," despite the human tendency to judge them so. Everything that has happened has been driving us relentlessly to this present moment and to the events shortly to begin.

Now, imagine the missile of collective civilization nearing its target, ready to receive its final redirection for the next and perhaps last phase of the trip—not unlike the "smart missile" that sees the target ahead and directs the internal mechanism to drive itself straight to the destination. For mankind, the destination is a rediscovery of simple subjectivism, a new mark in non-space and non-time, a fulfillment of the Original Purpose for tangible life on earth.

As far as the relationship between time and space and their interconnections to tangible life goes, the end-game's corrective information is presently being received within the quantum body of civilization. This information is intended to adjust and correct society's major systems for their final movement as mankind comes to discern the true nature of things—particularly time, space, matter and awareness (life). In many ways science, the vanguard of human wisdom, has nearly reached that comprehension already.

What does this final corrective feel like to you and me here in the old-world scene of things? It comes as a new clock turned on within us; as new sensitivity; an increasing intuitiveness; a new perception within us; as certain unfamiliar anxieties, disquiets, stresses and discomforts; as inexplicable fear and depression. Anyone can look at the human scene and see the lids popping off here and there with acts of insanity and people trying to satisfy impossible urges. Who is to say what the northern geese feel before they assemble to make the trek south? Or the butterflies before they start their long upwind search for their ancestral birthplace? I know that dramatic course-altering input is presently arriving within mankind; the sensitive feel it especially. This arrival is not unlike the way the ability to perceive color has developed in mankind in recent millennia. We are told this sense is one of the latest developments of the human brain—but what is presently happening is at a deeper level of mentation. What is it? The arrival of the truly subjective nature of mentation—quantum man's capacity for ever greater introspective self-examination.

At this moment, civilization is a little like a field of cotton beginning to bloom: first a boll here, another there, then more and more until one morning we look out and the entire field is abloom. Or, it is like popcorn popping. One kernel pops, then another and another until there is a veritable explosion of the rest. Hard pressed, shaken together and running over, mankind is coming into a conscious knowledge of a subjective sense of things which is certain to alter the course of civilization. The first "blooms" have been the prophets, the seers, the avatars, the insightful, those with eyes to see and ears to hear. Now the field is turning white with the ability to perceive subjectively. Confusion abounds at the unrecognized newness of it all. Now that subjectivism is here, no one knows what to do with it. The major divisions of human activity have not made the necessary adjustments to allow the missile the freedom to change course. Neither education, government, religion nor metaphysics has made the full turn demanded of them—and the time is short. In certain areas, science, with the help of subjective quantum mechanics, has adjusted reasonably well as it goes along searching the vistas of tangibility, but it remains to be seen what scientists will do with their information once it becomes clear that they are now, and always have been, examining consciousness.

People are individually willing to adjust, as their intuitions and feelings come into focus, but the controlling groups to which they belong, are vigorously holding to the old ways, refusing to listen to the New Sounds within. Either the institutions of mankind adjust to allow men to change mental course, or there will be a sociological anguish unparalleled in human history.

A Letter On Government

This following paper by William Samuel, was included in a perusal letter he had sent me. It is from William Samuel's unpublished papers, his private journal. It's truly profound and as often is with William's words, prophetic. Here is something to really understand with the heart of you. I share it here with you now.

From unpublished papers written by  William Samuel, 1978

The age old struggle between idealism and materialism continue with materialism making the most apparent gains. The genuine idealist is becoming rather difficult find.

Now we have reached the point, right here in America, when our two political parties are, in their very essence, embodiments of these two extremes. Idealism, the least popular, because the least understood, is the basis for the conservative view of government. On the other hand, materialism is the foundation for the liberal view of government.

It is my hope that someone will come along who is capable of pointing out so that all can clearly understand the basic difference is these two views. They are diametrically opposed one to the other. One says that “ideal society” can and must be regulated by laws; the other declares that the fewer laws the better an individual is able to operate to build the ideal society. The later group points out that "laws" are “regulations of human conduct” and that “freedom” is the “absence of regulations.” They maintain that we are removing our freedom by over regulating ourselves with laws at all levels of government and that we must reverse the trend lest one day we find all our personal freedom gone the way of government, rule, and regulation, for which we must pay the bill.

It is interesting to note that such a struggle between opposite points of view was waged in China 2500 years ago. Confucius advocated a powerful central government of law and regulations. Loatse, on the other hand, quietly maintained that the less law and less government the better. Confucius carried the day because the bulk of the people approved the idea of a great central caretaker and regulator of their problems. The Loatsen view called for personal humility in the face of Divine Law which was already perfectly established and which could be discerned and followed by men if they didn’t allow themselves to be carried away, distracted, inundated by human laws, rules an regulation.

History records that the strong governments eventually become corrupted in an era of gross materialism, void of religion, and fell apart. Yet the Laotsen ideas became the basis for one of the most magnificent religions the world has ever known—its idealism still a major influence in the world today.

Mayhap someone will also point out that communism can only thrive in an atmosphere of materialism. Whereas genuine religion thrives only in an atmosphere of idealism. Communism is a dead duck in the conservative society. Religion is a gonner in the liberal atmosphere. This is not to say that a liberal is a communist, but it is to say that most liberals are unaware that their own governmental regulation of human conduct is an equal and opposite remover of personal freedom, which, by definition is "the absence of regulation." Neither are they aware that their ideas are rooted in materialism, the belief that money, property, “things” et al, are more important than the overriding "Isness" which is being all "things." Many materialists I know pride themselves in the power of their ‘mind’ while all the while they hold that very mind in total subjection to their opinion of “things.”

The idealist, on the other hand, holds that "things" are secondary to mind, life, consciousness which he equates with God. The materialist must eventually equate his regulating government (who controls the “things” he considers so important) with God. This, of course, is precisely what communism preaches.

Humanity is prone to consider everything it thinks and does from the basis of the appearing. It recons reality from the seen and heard. Its aim and intention is to correct the errors of appearance. Suppose a mathematician did this. Suppose he did all his figuring and calculating from the standpoint of all the errors which appeared on the misworked paper. He wouldn't get much done. As a matter of fact, he wouldn’t get anything done. He wouldn’t solve the first error until he left the mistake long enough to check into the principle of arithmetic which would show him what was wrong about the problem and how to solve it.

So long as humanity is concerned only with the "things" of perception and pays no heed to the very perfect principle of Reality which is the basis for all ‘things’ ---and which, when understood, is the harmony and perfection of all experience---it will suffer the consequences of its own misinterpretation of “things.” Mankind must leave the errors of human experience in order to have done with them, just as the mathematician must "leave" the problem in order to entertain the “answer” to the problem. The answer to the problem is always, always, Reality, God.

The Awareness of Self-Discovery   by William Samuel
by William Samuel

By William Samuel (from Lollygog Notes 1978)

This begins as a personal letter, dear reader...

For that is what it is. Not an essay. Not a formal paper. Not something to be struggled with to understand, but to read gently as one reads a letter from a friend.

The comprehension of Reality--- especially the recognition that a pure, good and perfect Reality is absolutely all in all, everywhere present, nowhere absent and being all there is to be seen, heard, felt or experienced--- seems seldom to come from great, grinding effort. More often, much more often, it comes from human effort relaxed. It comes in stillness and gentleness like a Spring blossom opening, like a winter stream melting, like a new day breaking.

From a letter to a friend involved in governmental scandal, energy crisis and inflation:

______, I understand your deep concern for the "shrinking dollar" and the "embarrassing dilemma of a shocking governmental scandal." You ask how one is to see these situations in the light of an "absolute Good that isn't at all apparent" to you at the moment. As you say, "The grandiose declaration that God's Government is the only REAL Government hasn't done the trick."

Suppose we ponder along these lines:

If false value has been put into human government and its money, what is wrong (or bad) with the appearing of false value going out of graven images?

In human terms, doesn't the wrong way make the right increasingly clear? Or, obversely, would the incubator chick ever become conscious of the light he is continually bathed in if he never peeped outside into the darkness of night?

And doesn't the darkness of the cicada's long sojourn in the earth allow a full consciousness of sunlight and color when it emerges.

It accomplishes nothing to make the metaphysical declaration that "liars and thieves have no place in God's government" if we still condemn, and stand in terror of "the liars and thieves in human government."

Why? Because that is talking one government while trying to live two. Is God ALL, or is there a "human imperfect" beside? Is human government illusion or is it the means by which Divine Government is made clear?

Seen in this light, one can actually stop attempting to live two governments, one "real" and one "unreal," and see what is labeled "human government" as the Divine becoming known.
Dualistic nonsense! shouts the intellect of us.

But, are the Symphony and notes a dualism?--- No.--- They are ONE SYMPHONY made Self-evident.--- The Authority is in the Light, not the shadows.

Are "day" and "night" a dualism?--- No.---They are ONE LIGHT made Self-evident.--- The authority is in the Light, not the shadows.

Are Spirit and matter, Good and evil, tangibility and intangibility dualisms?--- They are not.---They are ONE, pure, perfect, fully (infinitely) Self-evident GODHEAD.

Authority exists as this Godhead (Isness)--- and not in the supposititious opposites the OMINISCIENT Godhead knows It is not--- and could never be.

Once, the question was asked of Jesus when all the hidden things would be revealed. His reply, starkly simple, was to "Know what is in they sight and what is hidden from thee will be revealed to thee. For there is nothing hidden which will not be manifest." (THOMAS, Till translation, Log. 5)

All the power of human government has been unable to keep its secrets from being revealed. The Godhead stands revealed already. "Then, when will we see it?" Jesus was asked.---"When you make the two into a single one" He replied time and again.

How? "Know what is in thy sight". We FACE and UNDERSTAND the situations that present themselves within awareness. We do not disclaim the presence of the sight.

We understand, acknowledge and live the PERFECTION of the sight--- and know WHY we do! We forgive and bless the sight for the Scene it makes clear. "We kiss the cross" and awaken. We end the attempt to ignore, heal, bury or change it. And then, then, we see sting and victory taken from the "cross." A new name is discovered for it, "known only to him who overcometh."

Human government, with all its apparent shortcomings, is the curtain going up for the Divine Government. The rising curtain appears as value going out of the curtain into the Scene behind. All that seems to be the painful and embarrassing termination of curtain-love is displaced by the interminable Love of the New Scene.

Awareness "expands" to perceive the Invariable Already, consciously. Change--- the world in turmoil---is the changelessness of the Already (Isness) becoming evident.

We can say it another way: Change is the shedding of our former views of variableness. Change, and the Changelessness it makes evident, are one Changelessness.

Does authority (to frighten us, make us shake our heads in frustration and wonder) lie in the turmoil of change? Or is authority in the Ineffable Changelessness that change makes plain? To which do you "yield yourself servant to obey?" You know the answer already.

"Well and good in theory, but the change in my dollars is making them less valuable"

The belief that value is in dollars is Wisdom's knowledge it is NOT!

The belief that Authority is in human government is Wisdom's knowledge it is NOT!

The belief that Energy, the functioning of Mind, is expendable and in short supply is Wisdom's knowledge it is NOT!

WHATEVER Wisdom knows it is not, is no bother to Wisdom and does not frighten Us.
Little good it does the mighty metaphysician to "deny the reality" of an "energy crisis." One needs only to look at the "human evidences" of it, understand them as the evidence of Deific Omnipotence coming to light.

Call that evidence by its NEW NAME and, then, look on to see the startling proofs that Omnipotence, and the evidences that make it clear (whether positive or negative) are ONE Omnipotence! "When you make the two into a single one".

These final days of belief's obliteration mark the conscious emergence of Wisdom as the only Identity on the Scene.

Finiteness is ever the clarification of Infinity.

Tangibility is Intangibility (Spirit) made plain.

Human government is the tangible measure of Measureless Authority.

Unlimited Wisdom's knowledge of where Authority does not lie appears as the human effort to put value into human affairs.

The awakening recognition that Wisdom is the Identity "we" are (and have always been) must appear as misplaced value and authority going out of human affairs. That dissolution, however it seems, IS NOT BAD!

Why ISN'T it bad?

Once more, let me explain with an analogy:

To the musician who has labored long with notes, the knowledge he is HIMSELF the SOUNDING SYMPHONY he has tried so long to play, comes with joy, not fear. THAT one recognizes that Value was never in the finite note yet he would have never known it infinitely had he not made the futile attempt to give value to the notes. THAT one can watch the humbling of the notes with no more elation or depression--- or fear--- than one who watches darkness vanish 'pon the birth of a new day.

Oh, but Wisdom KNOWS the disappearance of darkness and Wisdom's Self-emergence are one event. It knows the darkness of night has served to make the Light of Life fully known.

Perhaps these are ponderous ideas, too much for the intellect of us--- but the Heart already knows all they strive to say. After all, ponderousness is the means by which Simplicity is full recognized for all it is.

The Light these words tell of so falteringly is supremely SIMPLE--- and available--- and HERE, right now!

With loving kindness from the green hills of Alabama

William Samuel (Billy)

Excerpt from
"The Child Within Us Lives! A Synthesis of Science, Religion and Metaphysics"
 by William Samuel

In The Gospel According to Thomas we find these remarkable words: Jesus said: If they say to you: “From where have you originated?,” say to them: “We have come from the Light, where the Light has originated through itself. It stood and revealed itself in their image.” If they say to you: “Who are you?,” say: “We are His sons and we are the elect of the Living Father.” If they ask you: “What is the sign of you Father in you?,” say to them: “It is a movement and a rest.”

That in mind, imagine still another mighty mountain beyond Da Shan.  It is an unseeable Infinite Mountain of Reality, preexisting Da Shan (the world) in exquisite Simplicity. That mountain transcends all names. It can't be seen directly by those who are climbing Da Shan, but when one reaches the tangible mountain's peak and stands balanced there, he begins to perceive the Mountain Beyond Name, mysteriously inverted, its peak touching the peak of Da Shan. It is a Mighty Universe so vast that even Da Shan is but a granule within its heart.

In a twinkling, the balanced Child, but ONLY the balanced Child, sees that Da Shan is an image of the Mountain Beyond Name. More, he sees that Da Shan, the image of the real, is an infinite quantity of images of images of the Mountain Beyond Name—all spiraling inward—and because Da Shan is so many images, and images of images, compacted inward, Da Shan (the world) appears opaque and solid to the climber, his own body a physical microcosm of Da Shan.

The Child perceives, further, that the light which is the substance of Da Shan is only an image of the Light of the Real Mountain Beyond Name, The limited light of Da Shan is in motion; the illimitable Light of Mountain Beyond Name is a rest. Da Shan appears one way in its own limited light, quite another way in the timeless Light at rest.

Standing atop Da Shan, one also finds that the physical body has a Twin for which the climber's self-image is a poor inversion. Indeed, the real Identity stands within the very center of the Ineffable Mountain Beyond Name and atop Da Shan simultaneously. More than that, The Child is everywhere on Da Shan at once, as well as at the Heart of things. This “other” Identity has a Name—the Child, the Christ-Light, the Guide, the Original One-I-AM, the Comforter, Messiah which has never left the State of Grace of Mountain Beyond Name and has never been bound by the world's time and space, even while appearing there.

Atop Da Shan, the balanced View, the Child's view begins to comprehend that everything under its feet is imaged confirmation (to infinity) of the REAL; that everything beneath the balanced foot exists in time's inward spiral—present to confirm eternal Timelessness and infinite spacelessness.

Ah so, as the good people in Kwangse often say, what does this mean? For starters, it means that at each moment of time on the face of Da Shan, the unbound, unconfined Child within us is available to guide our way to Da Shan's peak wherein time ends and Timelessness exists already.

What does the Christ Child, the Heart within, tell us that helps our ascent? That in Truth, the Real of us is victorious already—and in proportion to our belief that those words are true, THIS tangible experience in the world of people, places and things progressively moves to CONFIRM that Fact, proving the Light of the Eternal—appearing in our experience as another step toward the Truth, another Glimpse.

How? As a perfect balance maintained against all worldly odds; as inward scenes of beauty; as feelings of joy and well-being beyond human comprehension, all rushing to confirm the Real—the veritable “proof of God” the world (Da Shan) is looking for.

It tells us intimately of “The Equation” without which no one tangibly reaches the pinnacle of understanding.
What is the Equation? It is the mysterious Balance—the perfect balance actually lived in the world of appearances. This will become clear in the pages ahead.

Bottom line: We rediscover the original Child within us all and run with it. It will tell us all we need to know of religion, psychology, metaphysics and science without taking us to all the extremes therein.
